Dance Victoria presents an annual season of mid- to large-scale concert dance at Victoria’s 1400 seat Royal Theatre. The programming g includes both Canadian and international companies. Additionally, each January it programs a ten-day citywide event called Dance Days. One component of Dance Days brings presenters to Victoria to see in-studio performances of west coast dance artists.
Dance Victoria also manages a 12,000 square foot facility with three dance studios and offices. It hosts several annual residencies and contributes to commissions of new work.
Annually, the organization supports the development of new work by western Canadian dance artists working with an international partner through its Chrystal Dance Prize, awarding about $50,000 to one or more applicants. The Chrystal Dance Prize also supports young dancers and choreographers from western Canada who are training at an international institution.
