While her dance vocabulary continues to expand with long phrases, bringing to light emotions buried in the depths of the body, Danièle Desnoyers utilizes the onstage presence of harpist Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau in Paradoxe Mélodie. Her music is manipulated in real time by the sound technician, and undergirded by a recorded electro-acoustic score. By awakening our auditory and emotional memories with its light tones, the harp stimulates a desire for elevation and ascent, clichés that the choreographer plays with in a humorous fashion. Arpeggios are manipulated through electro-acoustic music and contemporary dance, defying the instrument and the imagery it evokes.

“How can dance be projected into life and how can life be reflected in a dancing body?” Desnoyer’s creations always evoke a subtle back-and-forth movement between order and chaos. A reflection of the world’s duality, her choreography oscillates between rigour and extravagance, tension and release, delicacy and unbridled energy.
