Founded in 1998, Danse Danse is a not for profit organization based in Montreal. Its mission is to present and promote contemporary dance, both new dance pieces and works from the repertoire. The company’s artistic vision focuses on outstanding new contemporary dance from Quebec, Canada and around the world, showcasing a diversity of stylistic practices and choreographic approaches that celebrate the richness of the art form, the dynamism of contemporary choreographic expression, and the broad range of current cultural and artistic initiatives.

Danse Danse presents an annual performance season from September to May, primarily at Montreal’s Place des Arts (Théâtre Maisonneuve and Cinquième Salle), with occasional performances at other locations.

Over the years, Danse Danse has hosted the following companies: Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Nederlands Dans Theater, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Dada Masilo – Dance Factory Johannesburg, Hofesh Shechter Company, Akram Khan Company, Batsheva Dance Company, Le Patin Libre, Ballet BC, Legend Lin Dance Theatre, BJM – Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Rosas, Groupe RUBBERBANDance, Shay Kuebler, José Navas / Compagnie Flak, The National Ballet of Canada, and more.

Danse Danse also provides financial assistance to selected Quebec and Canadian choreographers through commissions, coproductions and creative residencies. Its youth outreach initiatives (Get Youth Into Dance, Parcours des jeunes spectateurs, student discounts, Danse Danse à la carte) demonstrate the organization’s responsiveness to the younger generation and its commitment to welcoming and developing the audiences of tomorrow.
