15 years of contemporary dance
A series of international contemporary dance, Danse Danse has been presenting since 1998 exciting works by companies from here and elsewhere.
For its 15th season the Danse Danse co-directors, Clothilde Cardinal and Pierre Des Marais, are proud to offer a program that is not only ambitious, but that also reflects the great diversity of contemporary dance while providing support for the creation of new works. In conjunction with its programming, Danse Danse established (in 2005, 2006 and 2010 respectively) three complementary programs – Get Youth into Dance, Carte Blanche and Choreographers-in-Residence, the latter in association with the Segal Centre for Performing Arts – that raise dance awareness and provide support for up-and-coming choreographers. Danse Danse also intensifies its association with Place des Arts in order to increase initiatives to support new work. It is a reflection of the Danse Danse mission, which is to promote the growth and development of contemporary dance and to actively support the development of the art of choreography.
Over the past 15 years Danse Danse has attracted 250,000 spectators. By the end of the 2012-2013 anniversary season, we will have presented 440 performances by 109 companies (44 from Quebec and 65 from various countries), which is to say that 147 works by 76 choreographers will have been performed by an impressive number of dancers to an ever-expanding audience, proof of Montrealers' appetite for contemporary dance from here and elsewhere.
