Halifax-based Live Art Dance Productions has established a national reputation for the presentation of innovative dance projects and is the only specialised dance presenter in Canada's Atlantic region to program an annual season that features dance artists who have established a presence on national stages. Live Art has been introducing maritime audiences to the best in Canadian contemporary dance for more than two decades.
As of 2005, the Live Art season boasts two distinct series. The Main Stage Series tends to involve individual artists/companies from the local, national, and international dance communities; works are usually presented for a three night run in a 235 seat venue. The Alternative Spaces Series focusses on creating unique scenarios in which artists and audiences may share in the performance experience. These shows vary from 1 - 3 nights duration and may feature numerous artists on a shared programme.
Whatever the event, visiting companies are encouraged to implicate themselves in the local community by teaching workshops and Master Classes, and through their involvement in artists talks and other outreach activities.
Live Art is active as a commissioning partner and is an instigator of projects that create value for the local community as a whole.
Artists wishing to submit projects are encouraged to contact Paul Caskey prior to sending materials.
