Made in BC is committed to developing presentation opportunities in British Columbia for contemporary dance performance by BC artists.
Made in BC seeks to improve the position of diverse contemporary dance presentation in British Columbia in two primary ways:
- First, it encourages its network of presenters to present dance that is made in British Columbia. By offering exposure and dialogue through the annual Pitch Session, presenters gain the desired confidence, knowledge and support to successfully tour provincial dance artists throughout British Columbia.
- Second, Made in BC assists presenters in developing their audiences for the selected provincial tours. In supporting local dance outreach activities, including workshops, residencies and local community dance initiatives, Made in BC provides unique and significant services for new audience development to the benefit of local and provincial dance in British Columbia.
For the Pitch Session, BC dance artists can apply to ‘pitch’ one full-length program (either a single work or mixed repertoire) to the Made in BC network of presenters. Selected dance companies develop relationships with presenters and negotiate a two-year cycle of activities involving an outreach year and a tour year.
The deadline for applications from BC dance artists is February/March; the Pitch Session is held annually in March/April. Check the website for eligibility criteria, deadlines and application information.
