MovEnt is a non-profit dance production/creation company devoted to developing the contemporary dance audience in Vancouver, BC and Canada. Relentlessly searching out a physicality of strength, style and integrity, MovEnt aspires to fashion and produce new dance that encourages high expectations and discovers engaging art. Promoting contemporary dance that is accessible and artful, showcasing new and established creators who have passion for dance making, and bringing dance to a new audience: these are the goals we aspire to meet. MovEnt events demonstrate that live dance theatre need not be for only the art connoisseur, but for anyone who enjoys expressive physicality in a dynamic, urban setting.
Our signature series Dances for a Small Stage takes dynamic contemporary dance and throws it on a ridiculously small stage in an intimate cabaret setting. Small Stage is presented 3-4 times a year, mainly in Vancouver, and occasionally at The Canada Dance Festival. The evening showcases eight choreographers and their creatively contained 5-7 minute choreographies over a two-day run. We encourage choreographers whose works are boldly danced, well crafted and accessible to a bar crowd to consider Small Stage as a performance venue.
There is no formal application procedure. Presented artists are selected by MovEnt’s producers, and include local Vancouver choreographers as well as national dance artists. Please contact Julie-anne Saroyan by email if interested in participating in a Small Stage event.
Dances for a Small Stage is presented 3 times a year.
Capacity of venue is 250. Dimension of state is 10 feet deep by 15 feet wide.
