The Vancouver East Cultural Centre incorporates the presentation of dance into programming that offers residents of the Lower Mainland diverse and challenging choices in the performing arts.
In partnership with Alcan, the VECC created the $60,000 Alcan Performing Arts Award. This award for BC performers rotates annually between dance, theatre and music/ opera. The past winners of the Alcan Performing Arts Award for dance were The Holy Body Tattoo, for Circa, and battery opera with Cyclops and Kidd Pivot with their new work Lost Action.
Previous dance presentations have included the UK’s Akram Khan, Kaeja d’Dance, Montreal Danse, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Butoh Sha Tenkei (Japan), O Vertigo, battery opera, Kinesis Dance, CandoCo (UK), Kokoro Dance, EDAM, Salto Dance, Compagnie Flak, resident company The Holy Body Tattoo and Lola McLaughlin Dance, among many others. Presentations included the world premiere of battery opera's Cyclops; the Vancouver premiere of a new work by Lola McLaughlin—co-commissioned by the CanDance Network Creation Fund, L’Agora de la Danse, The Brian Webb Dance Company, the Canada Dance Festival, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre and supported by The Canada Council Dance Section; Compagnie Marie Chouinard’s Les feux dans la nuit and Etude #1; and the premiere of DanStaBat’s Slab, a new work choreographed by Chick Snipper.

The floor level playing area is the "stage". Standard raked seating configuration of 270 seats leaves a usable oak floor playing are 30 ft. wide x 24 ft. deep, measured from the seating to the traveler curtain line.
There is also a plywood-floored alcove upstage of the curtain line measuring 24 ft. 8 in. at its widest point x 11 ft. 6 in. deep. The alcove is framed by a proscenium arch 16 ft. high x 23 ft. 8 in. wide.
